The Short story

The Medium story

My mother is a landscape painter and my father was an Engineer.

I inherited my appreciation for art and design from one and my (obsessive) interest in ‘how stuff works’ from the other.

So I guess it’s not surprising that in a wide variety of roles in marketing and branding over more than 20 years, the common factor has been the active application of creativity to business challenges.

I think the ‘backstage pass’ that allows us to dig into a company and category is one of the best parts of what we do. And I’m lucky to have used that pass to make work I’m really proud of on such great brands as Canadian Tire, TELUS and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.

I’m fascinated by people and how they think, feel and behave. I’ve had a little piece of paper with ‘understand intention’ written on it for more than 10 years and it’s the basis of how I approach people and problems, at work and in life.

People say I’m smart, open and easy to work with, which is good, although, not the “intimidating force-of-nature” I was going for.
